Communication Health Assistant Guidelines

SAC defines “communication health assistants” as any individual employed in a role supporting the delivery of speech-language pathology and/or audiology services AND receiving supervision in those duties by a qualified speech-language pathologist or audiologist. 

The following documents offer guidelines to communication health assistants, audiologists, S-LPs, employers, administrators and other relevant stakeholders regarding communication health assistant scope of practice, educational training, supervision and Code of Ethics. 

We recommend that these guidelines be reviewed on a prescribed schedule.

Note: SAC’s communication health assistant associates must adhere to these guidelines unless provincial/territorial guidelines are in place. Provincial/territorial regulations/legislation always takes precedence.
