Note: Neither enrollment for the CETP Exam nor passing the CETP Exam means an exam candidate is able to practice the profession. The CETP Exam is one component of the licensure process and registration with the applicable regulatory body is required.

Graduates from Canadian Accredited Programs may enroll for the CETP Exams during the exam enrollment period. “Conditional enrollment” is available as long as the following conditions are met:

  1. Exam candidate undertakes the first exam attempt within one year of the confirmed date of program completion.
  2. Exam candidate has completed the Master’s program requirements (academic and clinical) at the latest 20 calendar days before the exam date.
  3. Program Director has provided a confirmation of program completion to the CETP Exams Manager before the exam enrollment deadline.
  4. Should the Program Director not provide a confirmation of program completion by the exam enrollment deadline, the exam candidate must confirm their eligibility to write the exam through the regulatory body at the latest 20 days prior to the exam date.

The exam enrollment will be cancelled and a full refund provided to an exam applicant who is unable to fulfill the criteria required for “conditional enrollment”.

*Conditional enrollment” for graduates of Canadian Accredited Programs is available only to exam candidates who plan to practice in jurisdictions who have agreed to the conditional enrollment process.

If an internationally educated applicant (including USA graduates) wishes to enroll in the CETP exam, they must meet the following conditions:

  1. The applicant must contact the regulatory body in the province where they plan to practice and initiate the registration assessment process. The regulatory body determines their eligibility to write the CETP exam and informs the CETP Exam Manager. The assessment to determine eligibility may take several months. See the list of regulatory bodies.
  2. The regulatory body must confirm the applicant’s eligibility to write the CETP Exam at the latest 20 calendar days before the scheduled CETP Exam date. To confirm eligibility, the regulatory body must have completed a full review of the applicant’s application for registration. If all registration requirements are met then the regulatory body will communicate the applicant’s eligibility directly to the CETP Exam Manager.
  3. An applicant may enroll for the CETP exam through the link provided on the CETP Exams Web Site during the Exam’s enrollment period if the regulatory body has indicated to the applicant that their assessment will be completed within the deadline in condition 2.
  4. If the applicant has enrolled in the CETP Exam during the exam enrollment period and the regulatory body is unable to confirm the eligibility 20 calendar days before the scheduled exam, the exam enrollment/booking will be cancelled and the exam fee fully reimbursed.

Exam Enrollment Process

To be completed during the exam enrollment period.
  1. Complete application form.
  2. Select one of the following on-line exam format options:
    1. Computer-based testing at select exam centres with an invigilator supervising the exam administration.  You will be required to select a city where an exam centre is available.
    2. Live remote proctoring where exam candidates complete the exam on the same day from their home/office computer. An invigilator actively observes and monitors the exam candidate during the entire test administration. The invigilator ensures there are safeguards to protect the integrity and validity of the exam similar to an in-person proctoring. Special security and monitoring applications are used by the invigilator to scan the environment and ensure the computer is “locked” and can only be used for completing the exam.
  3. Purchase exam

    You will receive two emails:

    1. An official tax receipt
    2. A confirmation that your exam enrollment was received. This email will include other relevant information regarding the exam.
Approximately four weeks before exam date.
    1. Exam Writers who selected Computer-based testing at select exam centres will receive an email with a request that you select the exact location where you wish to write the on-line exam from a list of available examination centres available on the day of the exam. An email will be sent that will confirm the start time of the exam at the exam centre selected. At that time, you will be provided information to access a Platform Tutorial which will provide you with an opportunity to become familiar with the platform prior to sitting for the exam.

    2. Exam Writers who selected Live Remote Proctoring exam writers will receive an email to select a specific time to write your exam from a timetable provided for the day of the exam. It is essential to prepare for an exam with live remote proctoring in advance – please review the Exam Instructions section.
